Domestic violence is more than just physical abuse. It is sexual, emotional, economic and psychological violence.

If the abuser uses crafty strategy to gain power and control, identifying the signs of an abusive relationship can be difficult. Many times, survivors think that the beginning of the abuse started the first time the abusers hit them, but in many cases, the cycle of violence may have started earlier in the relationship, in very subtle ways. Abusers can be very charming and convincing when exerting a power and control strategy. It may come in the form of attentiveness at the beginning of a relationship. It is important to understand common occurrences or patterns in an unhealthy relationship and being able to begin an informed conversation is a big step to healing and helping others to join in understanding why and how domestic violence occurs, and understanding that there is life after domestic violence.
